Isn’t it a great feeling when you become a mother or a father? A baby is like the emergence of a new world, full of happiness, hope and positivity. But, there are millions of people across the world who are denied this happiness owing to infertility. According to reports, almost 12 to 13 couple out of 100 in the U.S. cannot give birth to a baby owing to infertility. Infertility may occur among men and women alike because of various reasons.
Though modern science has opened the doors to new possibilities but, there are certain risks associated which can further complicate the problem.
A much safer way is Ayurveda, an age-old system of medicine that originated thousands of years back in India. This natural healing system takes a holistic approach to cure various diseases and ailments including infertility.
Ayurveda Treatment for Infertility
Shirodhara Therapy
In order to treat hormonal imbalances, certain medicated oils are used in Ayurveda and the whole therapy is known as Shirodhara. The name comes from two Sanskrit words – ‘shiro’ meaning head and ‘dhara’ meaning flow. In this therapy, oil is allowed to pour on a specific point on the forehead for a time period which leads to a balanced state of mind and also promotes ovarian follicles growth in women.
Basti
This is the primary therapy of Panchkarma treatment where medicated oil is provided as enema for cleaning the colon. This is done to eliminate the doshas via the rectum resulting in good health and improved quality of ovum and semen.
Gokshura
This is an Ayurvedic herb that helps with erectile dysfunction as well as improved sperm count in men. Similarly, it acts as a female fertility tonic that ensures proper stimulation of the ovary.
Vamana
It is a purification therapy that induces controlled vomiting. It is carried out to expel kapha dosha from the body, excess of which can lead to a lot of diseases. The preparation consists of sweet flag, liquorices and emetic nut.
Vasti
Medicated enema or vasti results in the elimination of metabolic wastes and toxins from the body. The preparation which consists of Ayurvedic oils, herbal pastes, rock-salt and honey is induced through the anal route. Apart from sexual disorders, the vasti treatment also eradicates other ailments like heart pain, kidney stone, constipation, etc.
Virechana
Virechana is again a therapy that makes use of controlled purgation to flush out harmful toxins or pitta dosha from the body. The person is administered a virechana drug that induces the vomiting effect and the toxins are expelled.
Kapikachhu
This Ayurvedic herb has aphrodisiac properties and is extensively used for elevating sperm count in men. This herb also helps in normalizing cell functions of the body and acts as an anti-oxidant as well.
Changes in Lifestyle and Diet
Since, the ancient science of Ayurveda is holistic in nature, it is advised to lead a healthy lifestyle and refrain from habits like alcohol consumption and smoking which can further affect libido and infertility. Also, a change in the diet is a must for those who are willing to bask in the goodness of Ayurveda treatment. Foods that are high in fats, preservatives as well as carbohydrates should be avoided. It is better to stay away from caffeinated drinks and include more fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lentils in the diet.
